5. Debate/blog the following topic: Students will read Chapter 2, Howard Zinn, “Drawing the Color Line”, and blog on the following discussion questions. Remember to respond to a minimum of two of your peers.
What are your feelings about Zinn's argument as to why slavery started? Do you think it started due to 'natural' instincts? If not, what reasoning do you have for the start of slavery? Many people think that we have eliminated slavery after the passing of the 13th amendment. Do you think this is true? If not, in what forms is slavery still present today

Students will debate on the blog on the following prompt: “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” is perhaps Edwards’ most famous sermon; it was delivered on a visit to the congregation at Enfield, Connecticut, in 1741. His sermons are often noted for their fire-and-brimstone imagery. This one is no exception. Edwards’ purpose in this sermon was to awaken and persuade the “natural men” in the congregation to accept Christ as their savior or convert them to Christianity. What language does Edwards employ to achieve his purpose? Give five examples of language/ fire and brim stone and analyze what he is saying. Analyze why he is saying it this way. Debate with your peers on the blog.
